STORy TIME
Every single production I’ve ever been on has stories to tell, wisdom to share, and laughs to be had. These are stories from my journey. I hope you enjoy!
Almost Holy Title Sequence
Today is a little throwback to the Almost Holy title sequence. I love the look of this so much. This was completed close to wrapping up the film for premiere at Tribeca Film Festival.
Blood brother Title Sequence
I haven’t watched our documentary Blood Brother in probably 9 years. So after a conversation yesterday abut the film, I sat down and watched it. This is the title sequence we created for the film.
Welcome to 2001
Welcome to my senior project 2001. I was in a band called The New Rock Project so decided to record a song with friends and make a music video. So here we are 23 years later and I finally unearth the masterpiece.
Secret & Whisper
This video holds a special place in my heart. Me and Steve really enjoyed the song and pitched a weird idea we had. If you asked me today, I don’t remember what we pitched or even how we made sense of it.
Vanilla Twilight?
A throwback to the second go around with Owl City was for the single Vanilla Twilight. I found and except from our treatment/pitch: “We wanted to create a surreal encounter with a something strange in the sky without making it too alien…”
The Wizard, Oz.
Roughly seven years ago I locked the edit to my second short documentary, The Wizard Oz. I love this story for so many reasons. I first read about Oberon Zell-Ravenheart (a.k.a. Oz) in a Vice article and ended up connecting with him through email. Soon after, I got one of his books on Amazon called “The Wizard and the Witch” - and as bizarre as his story was, I saw a story of love. And that is what we hope we were able to capture and share with everyone.
The one that got Away.
Not many people know a few years ago I started filming my first feature documentary as a director with the working title, The Terrorist’s Son, based off of the life of Zak Ebrahim. Zak had done a TED Talk and released a book with the same title and that is how I discovered him and his story.
Craigslist Casting And other Stories.
Twelve years ago myself and Steve Hoover were gearing up to shoot our biggest music video to date with Silverstein and Victory Records. The band is still doing great to this day.
UFOs and Music videos
Did you ever have one of your film shoots mistaken for a UFO/Aliens? I always laugh thinking about this project. This was our first video for August Burns Red and was earlier in our music video career.
A Very cold sTudio
Here is a throwback to our third time working with The Devil Wears Prada. The song is called Assistant to the Regional Manager. Funny enough I found the writeup we shared pitching what we’d like to do with the video.
Erin McCarley In Paris
Over the years we had a good relationship with Universal Records. I remember we were filming Anberlin’s music video for Impossible when I got a call from their commissioner. He had asked if we would be interested in filming a music video for a new singer/songwriter named Erin McCarley…in Paris. We were thrilled and of course said “Yes!”
Nothing but a Ghost
I don't think my music video career would have felt complete without an homage to Ghostbusters. Probably around 2009 we were commissioned by Victory Records to create a music video for Four Letter Lies new single, Nothing but a Ghost.
Blogging 101
Got a shorter one for today. About 15 years ago, we were approached by Epitaph Records to pitch on a music video for a rather new band called Farewell. The song was called First One On The Blog. Being that it was the early 2000s and the whole Myspace genre of photos and blogging was hot, we pitched the idea of having a school for blogging so to speak with a sprinkle of Breakfast Club style comedy.
The Devil Wears Prada
Alright back to some music video stories. This one today is the first time we worked with The Devil Wears Prada. This is as they were starting to really pick up traction - they might have still been in High School as well. But we knew the band was going to start to make waves so we put some muscle behind the shoot.
August Burns Red
August Burns Red brought the metal. We brought the tics, stuck grip trucks and overnight shoots.
The Story Of Blood Brother (pt 1)
Back in 2010, me and Steve Hoover were itching to do something outside of our commercial work. Our friend, Rocky (Steve’s best friend at the time), had been living in India and sharing incredible stories of his journey.
Alligator Sky.
Another one for Owl City. This was myself and Steve Hoover's third music video with Owl City for Alligator Sky. I think I shot one or two more music videos after this before I hung up the towel.
