Alligator Sky.

This was myself and Steve Hoover's third music video with Owl City for Alligator Sky. I think I shot one or two more music videos after this before I hung up the towel.

So this one was a three day shoot and I think the biggest budget we ever had for a music video, which isn’t saying too much. Two of the days we spent driving around California, specifically towards the Salton Sea and back. We would just drive around and if we saw somewhere worth shooting, we’d pull over and film. The Salton Sea is crazy too. Whether or not it's true, we were told that they stock the sea with fish because the area relies on that for food? Anyway, the salt content of the sea is so high that they don't survive long. Instead of stand or earth leading up to the water, it's bone fragments of fish. And the closer you get to the water, the more full the skeletons are. Also, the smell... Anyway, the third day was on a backlot in Los Angeles where we created the look of a celebration that had taken place.

The idea was Adam was one of the last people on a dying Earth and left there to capture samples of life here before getting on a rocket to join the others on a new planet. We also gave Adam, the singer of Owl City, an old 8mm camera and film. We asked him to film things that were important and special to him to include in the film.

We got our friends and amazing fabricators, Jay Morrisey and Chaz Vance. They drew up and created the space suit worn by Adam. Samm Hodges handled the VFX along with Animal Studio.

We were always huge fans of the work that Larkin Seiple had done in the music video world so we were encouraged when he agreed to lens the music video. You'll recognize Larkin from going on to shoot Everything, Everywhere All At Once with the Daniels among others. We also brought on Brandon Bonfiglio to co-produce with me.
